The Oxford Changing Character of War programme was devoted to the interdisciplinary study of war and armed conflict. The programme conducted research on a wide range of issues pertaining to the history of war in the modern period, and sought to be ‘policy-relevant’ to more recent conflicts through elucidation, explication, and education.
The CCW Programme was generously funded by a £1.1 million Leverhulme Trust Research Programme grant from 2004 to 2009 and a John Fell Fund grant from 2009 to 2013. CCW was based in the History Faculty during this period before moving to Pembroke College.
Founding programme members: Professor Sir Hew Strachan (History), Professor Adam Roberts (International Relations), Professor Henry Shue (Political Philosophy), Dr David Gill (Law), Dr David Rodin (Philosophy)
