Empire in Dress: Nineteenth-Century Costume Books and the Construction of the Imperial World

Jacqueline N. Testamark is a DPhil Candidate in the History of Art and Visual Culture at Christ Church College. Her research explores questions of art and empire through the lens of nineteenth-century costume books. She is particularly interested in themes of orientalism, landscape, belatedness, classicism, and the use of art in early ethnography. Her dissertation is supervised by Professor Cora Gilroy-Ware (St. Peter's College) and generously supported by the Rhodes Scholarship.

Jacqueline completed her undergraduate studies at Yale University, earning Bachelor's degrees in History and Classical Civilizations (cum laude). Most recently, she completed an MSt in History of Art and Visual Culture at Oxford, finishing with a distinction in the course. Her research, reviews, and translations have been published in assorted exhibition catalogues, as well as in MIRAJ: Moving Image Review & Art Journal.
