Between Two Fires: Urban Landscapes in 19th century San Francisco

I am researching urban landscapes in late 19th century San Francisco, exploring spaces such as cemeteries, parks, and vice districts. I aim to understand why these places existed and persisted, or in some cases, did not persist, by examining the contestations around those spaces, and the groups and processes which impacted these places.
