DPhil Research Topic
Jacqueline N. Testamark is a DPhil candidate in the History of Art and Visual Culture at Christ Church College. Her research explores questions of art and empire, with a particular focus on Britain and Italy from 1700-1850 and the Grand Tour. She is particularly interested in themes of orientalism and belatedness, exchange between Italy and the Near East, and the manipulation of visual culture to support imperial motivations. Her dissertation is supervised by Professor Cora Gilroy-Ware (St. Peter’s College) and supported by the Rhodes Scholarship.
Jackie completed her undergraduate studies at Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Civilizations and History (cum laude), earning distinctions in both majors. Most recently, she received her MSt in History of Art and Visual Culture at Oxford, earning a distinction in the course. Jackie’s research and translations have been published as part of a larger exhibition catalogue on art in eighteenth-century Rome with Nicholas Hall Ltd.
