The English and Scottish Marches at Sea, 1296-1502'
My research focuses on warfare and lordship in the Irish Sea World during a period of frequent domestic and international conflict. I am interested in the geographical conditions of power in this maritime environment, and how conflict and political upheaval on land corresponded with naval activity. I examine interactions between mainland England, Scotland and Wales, the Isle of Man, the Hebrides and Gaelic and Anglo-Irish Ireland and consider the balance of royal and seigneurial maritime power within and between kingdoms.
